Here are some of my favorite memory verses for children. We start with these verses when our children are ready to memorize Scripture usually around age 4 or 5, though it is different with each child. We are passionate in our home about memory verses for children. I truly feel that if children grow up hiding God’s Word in their hearts it will be just a part of who they are and not something intimidating or “weird”.
These verses are a great place to start and build a foundation with. After these verses we move onto to chapters and books. In an upcoming post I will share with you the passages and chapters that we use for our older children.
Ephesians 6:1 – Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Psalm 23:1 – The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Psalm 19:1 – The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Acts 16:31 – And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Psalm 119:105 – Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Genesis 1:1 – In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Memorizing can be fun and can be a family activity even. We use whatever verse we are working on at the time as handwriting practice, to generate words for our spelling list if needed, and as dictionary and vocabulary lessons as well. It doesn’t do much good to have your children memorize God’s Word if they don’t understand it enough to apply it. These years with our children under our influence are so fleeting. Be intentional about instilling God’s Word in their hearts and minds. Weave it into the very fibers of your family so that your children can never separate your faith from your family. Your faith will be who you are, not just a part of you.
Awesome you should think of sothiemng like that
