What Happens When…….

The other day Maggie was feeding Kate for me and then she sat down to eat her lunch. She sat the bowl down on the highchair tray without another thought. I came back into the room a few minutes later to find this mess. Kate had cereal in her hair and her nose and in her lap and every where else. What a mess!

Kate was doing so much better and now things are getting bad again. She is waking up more. She is fussing during the day and is over all more crabby. We haven’t changed anything. I am so frustrated. I don’t know what else to try. She is now starting to gag all everything I feed her. She has been eating cereal like a champ for weeks now and over the past four days she has started gagging on every bite I put in her mouth. What is causing this? Why does she seem to be regressing after the medicine seemed to be helping for awhile. I mean, she slept for almost 10 hours straight through a couple of nights. Then one night she slept 12 1/2 hours with only waking once to nurse. Now she is up 4-5 times in a six hour time period.

Any ideas would be welcome.

All prayers would be appreciated.

  1. We had a similar experience when Jenna started feeding Angie baby food. It was such a mess that I ended up giving both girls a bath and mopping the floor. LOL!
All I have to offer is prayers for little Kate. You know me, I’m vocal enough that if I had any advice, you would have heard it long before now. LOL! Prayers are more effective than any advice I could give anyway. Praying for relief for her and you SOON!

I am sorry that you all have to go through this. My son was born last April and didn’t start sleeping more then 20-30 at a time till Jan. He still has some trouble with acid reflux. Here are a few tips that I have found(your probably know most of these already).

-Elevate the sleeping surface(he slept in his car seat until he got to big and then we used a bobby pillow)
-Keep baby upright for 30min after eating
-Make sure to always remember to keep the medication in their little bodies(no forgetting).
    – Cut out milk/dairy. It turned out my son has a milk protien allergy. There are quite a few studies out there linking acid reflux and milk allergies. Even if you baby doesn’t have a milk allergy, milk itself tends to make acid reflux worse. I know sounds crazy since milk is the first thing you think of to relieve heart burn.

The last thing I can say is that if breastfeeing is going well for you don’t stop. Some believe that because best milk is thinner and isn’t hypoallergenic(sp?) that it can contribute to acid reflux. Maybe…maybe not. The formula is expensive and my son wouldn’t touch it. Plus I found that when I cut out dairy and soy things got quite a bit better around here.

Sorry for going on and on. I hope things get better for you guys.

Oh I did forget something. As my son would grow he would need a higher dosage. Just on case you haven’t already check…you might look into a higher dose if she has gained weight.

  4. My daughter had the same problem…try taking our dairy in your diet. It helped DRASTICALLY for her. If I slipped up and ate any hint of dairy(even like milk in muffins, or cheddar chips) I would be up for HOURS with her crying! Also my doctor recommend backing off on the cereal and going to vegetables. Once she started eating real food it was a lot better. Also try the chiropractor. Nights got LONG when she was out of place. After a visit to the chiropractor she would sleep again!

  5. Hi, your infant acid reflux headline caught my on MckMamma’s sidebar just now, but first
    1. love your pink wallpaper and the gerb daisy.
    2. Encourage you to keep on with breastfeeding. my daughter never had formula or cereal, just started with table food cut real, real, small.
    3. Love to see someone cooking real food from scratch, ie dried beans. I wish more people would.

Back to acid reflux. While my children didn’t have it as infants, I suffer from it as an adult and I know how miserable a person can get. Mine is undercontrol with prilosec otc. But, I would like to get off it. someday.

I go to a body contact reflexogolist and she says there is a specific massage therapy routine (that is a term that I just loosly made up for the circle motion she showed me) that can provide some releif. She says it has been written down “somewhere” so I will try to find it on the net. If not I will try to get it written down with her help and get it to you by email. if that is ok.

  6. That would be great! Thanks for any ideas that you have. I look forward to leraning about something new.
