Preschoolers and Peace Circle Time- TOS Review

Circle TIme

Preschoolers and Peace has sponsored my next TOS review on their e-book “Circle Time“. And I have to admit that at first I was skeptical that this e-book wouldn’t offer much of anything for me as most of my children are not preschoolers any more. But this book is so much more than a book full of finger plays, nursery rhymes, and letters and numbers. Circle Time offers ideas on how to stream line as much of your day as possible by teaching with all of your children gathered around the table doing things as a group while even the littlest of toddlers and preschoolers are sitting quietly. This 33 page e-book is packed with ideas, testimonies from moms that have tried it and for $4.99 is like bringing a group of mentors into your home for tea and a chat.

If you have read here long I am sure that you can tell by now that this book speaks volumes to our new approach to homeschooling that has been evolving over the past 2 years. Through many of our unit studies, Bible time, writing assignments, and even language arts, we all study together with assignments given for each child at their level. This has stream lined so much of my day. I am no longer trying to find time to teach/help with science for this one and social studies for that one, while trying to help the preschooler learn her numbers. I teach one lesson and then give assignments and move on.

While this approach does take some training, as the book says, the training of being quiet and still is so vital to our children Whether you use blanket training or just sitting in a chair your life will be so much easier. When you can take your children to an appointment and have all of them sit quietly so that you can focus on the task at hand, you will reap the rewards. It is a slow process and it can be frustrating to be trying to train a toddler while teaching a science lesson, but with the older siblings showing the young one how to behave they will catch on. Just be consistent and patient. Circle Time lays out different schedules and approaches to this approach to homeschooling. And Kendra Fletcher even speaks of how her children have come to expect their circle time and miss it when the day demands other plans.

This book even comes with printables to help you plan your Circle Time meeting with your children. And lots of ideas on how to establish a routine that will work for your family. The length of your time will depend on the ages of your children and the needs/subjects that you wish to cover. But, please don’t be turned off by the title of this book. Even the most veteran of homeschooling moms could glean something from this book I am pretty sure. So, whether you are looking to finally add a group learning time to your day or just looking for some ideas on how to revamp your schedule to fit the always changing needs of children I encourage your to give this book a try.
