These homemade gooey butter cookies are soft and yummy and chewy goodness. But the best part about these gooey butter cookies is that unlike most of these types of cookies there is no “box” needed. So, you can have the creamy, buttery yumminess without the added artificial colors, fillers, and preservative. In place of the boxed cake mix I have added in flour, sugar, and baking powder (the “real” ingredients in a cake mix). Now, you can feel good about baking these cookies for your family!
[recipe]
Gooey Butter Cookies
1/2 cup butter 1/4 tsp vanilla
8oz block cream cheese 1 egg
2 3/4 cup flour 1 3/4 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder powdered sugar
Cream the first four ingredients together until smooth. Add the flour, sugar, and baking powder. Once well combined chill the dough in the refrigerator for an hour or so until dough is stiff and workable. Roll the dough into ball and then roll the balls into the powdered sugar. Place on cookie sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 12 minutes. You want the cookie to be set firm but not overdone. Just barely golden brown is best.
