It is another January already. I can’t believe it. During the new year 2014 season of reflection I wanted to document a few of my thoughts here as I am spending time planning school, purging closets, and packing away another year of Christmas. New Year is one of my favorite times actually. I am an organizational nut and I love a fresh start! I love the feeling of a clean slate and as I pack away the Christmas decorations it seems a great time to purge some “junk” and enter this new year 2014 a little “lighter”.
As always I am striving to make healthier choices for myself and my family, and this year is no different. But specifically I am focusing on more water intake, making more of our own “medicine”, and growing even more of our food. I want to start on herb garden this year and also start taking advantage of different crops that grow in different seasons. Here in the Midwest we can actually have three growing seasons and this year I want to plant in all three.
As a pastor’s wife and mother to 6 I am quite outnumbered in the pew each week for Sunday service. We are called to minister right now at a very small church so I actually have children with me each and every service. I have been very burdened lately with my lack of growth spiritually. The Lord has laid it on my heart that one way to grow in this season is to put more emphasis on Bible in our homeschooling. So starting this new year 2014 we will be having a morning Bible study, a monthly memorization challenge, and also a 30 minute quiet time after lunch. During those 30 minutes after lunch, I am committed to each and every one of us having quiet alone time. It will take some training I know, but it will be worth it in the end.
And last but actually one that I am really excited about is my goal for my home. I am done putting it off and muddling through with “what I have” in an effort to be frugal. I will get this house organized. I am getting more shelving for the closets, containers for toys/crafts that are just spilling all over the place, and I will throw away what we are not using. No more keeping stuff just because what “if” we may need it someday. I can’t wait to get started and see what happens.
As I have mentioned before my husband has been on vacation for the past two weeks. While one week was spent in my rocking chair with Elizabeth while she was fighting RSV I feel refreshed and ready to tackle these goals come Monday. The new Responsibility Charts are ready for the children and I have broken down my decluttering into manageable daily goals. So what are your thoughts and goals as we celebrate this New Year 2014?
Good luck with all your changes. I have worked in our church’s nursery for the last 5 years to help support my oldest’s relief worker habit. So I understand sometimes feeling the lack of spiritual growth. I purposed this year to be more intentional in my personal study. It has gone well so far.
