Legacy Documentaries sent me a copy of their very well made and informative DVD entitled Little House on the Prairie: The Legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder documentary ($24.95) for review recently and our whole family thoroughly enjoyed it!
I have loved Laura Ingalls Wilder for years and since my childhood her writing and life story has inspired me. When growing up, my sisters and I would spend hours recreating scenes from her books and imagining what it would be like to live during her pioneer time. I have hoped for years to instill this same love for her into my children as they grow and I couldn’t have been happier when they sat enthralled with this documentary.
This documentary’s focus was on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s struggle to get her story published and her adult life. But it also gives much more insight into her childhood, the struggles of the pioneer life and even the why behind the events that made it into the books and those that didn’t. This movie contained beautiful family heirloom pictures and scenery and even fun and creatively illustrated excerpts from the books. This documentary offered some fun insight into her writing career and the struggle that she went through to get her books into the hands of young children, as well as the family dynamics that she dealt with as she aged.
This Laura Ingalls Wilder documentary can be enjoyed by the whole family. My children ages 11, 9, and 7 and I enjoyed this movie one day with our lunch. My 4 and 2 year old lost interest in it fairly quickly but that comes with most all movies. I am sure that your family will love this movie too!
It was so nice to see that the narrator of this movie was none other than Dean Butler who played Almanzo in the Little House on the Prairie television series. Since those days he has created over 8 hours of bonus material for the Little House series, as well as both this Laura Ingalls Wilder documentary and a second documentary entitled, Almanzo Wilder: Life Before Laura ($21.95). Both of these wonderful Legacy Documentary DVDs are sure to be enjoyable and informative for each and every member of your family.
