I am going to try this week to share a recipe a day. I am going to focus on frugal, healthy, and tasty ideas that my own kids and husband love. This homemade granola recipe is a very easy recipe that is quick to mix up and always proves to be a hit. It travels well and I love to send it to a new momma or an expectant momma that needs a little help feeding her family. It makes a great snack or meal and is even hardy enough that I have been known to feed it to my children for dinner when we have had one of “those” days.
Granola
We eat this granola as a snack straight out of the bowl, as a cereal with milk, and on top of yogurt. I have tried it with different nuts and it is always delicious. You can also add dried fruit such as bananas, for a banana nut cereal, or raisins, for a cinnamon raisin treat.

Homemade Granola Recipe
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup vegetable oil (applesauce)
1/3 cup honey
5 cups oatmeal
3/4 tsp cinnamon
Mix brown sugar, honey and oil in saucepan. Heat until sugar is dissolved. Pour over oatmeal and cinnamon in a large cake pan. Mix well. bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Let cool in pan, stirring occasionally to prevent clumping. Store in an air tight container.

And that my friends is all. This homemade granola recipe takes probably less than 10 minutes to mix up and then bake for 10 minutes and in less than 30 minutes total you have a yummy batch of homemade granola that you can feel good about feeding your family. To make this recipe even healthier I have started using applesauce instead of the oil and stirring in about 1/4-1/2 cup of flax seed meal into each batch to add fiber and omega fatty acids.
I know canola would work fine as well. I have used it before. I have never tried olive oil in this recipe. If you try it let me know if it works, please!

yay! frugal recipes, i love frugal recipes :)
We love granola. I’m going to try this one. We don’t use vegetable oil. Would it be O.K. to substitute Canola oil or olive oil?

This looks delicious and so easy!
I like your idea of using oil. My recipe is similar but we use 1/2 butter and 1/2 peanut butter.
